It is a fierce, active predator that primarily dwells in the Underwater Islands, Crag Field, and Bulb Zone Biomes.+ +## Appearance+ +The Boneshark is a large shark-like creature plated with a thick, hard segmented exoskeleton, featuring a large head and irregular teeth that, instead of protruding from the gums, are an extension of its exoskeleton. Though it lacks dorsal fins, it does have two barbed pectoral fins and a set of bony flukes. It is grey in color with orange patterns on its head and on the peripherals of each bone plate. The shark also features two reflective green eyes with slit, snake-like pupils.+ +![Front view](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark8.jpg/200px-Boneshark8.jpg?7bb17)+![Side profile](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark6.jpg/200px-Boneshark6.jpg?47ec2)+![Dorsal view](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark9.jpg/200px-Boneshark9.jpg?b2770)+![Bioluminescence](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark11.jpg/200px-Boneshark11.jpg?486e4)+![Size comparison with the player](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark12.jpg/200px-Boneshark12.jpg?5b1f0)+ +## Behavior+ +Bonesharks are aggressive towards the player as well as small, medium and shark classified fauna. The predator is far more aggressive than other carnivores and will quickly swim after their prey or the player. Bonesharks will typically attack only once before swimming away. Despite what their databank says, the predator can not be distracted by light sources. The creature will flee for a few seconds upon being struck once with the knife.+ +Bonesharks will target the Seamoth or Prawn Suit when the player is piloting them. The predator can detect them from a radius further than their normal detection radius. Making Bonesharks more aggressive to a piloted Seamoth or Prawn Suit compared to other fauna.+ +Like most carnivores, holding any fauna will cause the Boneshark to eat the fish upon attacking the player, preventing damage from being taken. This will decrease the creature’s aggression for a short time.+ +Bonesharks hatched in the Alien Containment are passive towards the player.+ +> **Spoiler Alert:** The following section contains story related material.+>+> The Bonesharks inside the Primary Containment Facility's Aquarium are not hostile to the player or fauna. These Bonesharks will sometimes swim toward the player curiously.+ +## Energy Value+ +* **Bioreactor:** 630+* **Boneshark Egg:** 210+ +## Data Bank Entry+ +![Boneshark](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark-2.png/650px-Boneshark-2.png?5802e)+ +A large and powerful predator that lives in small groups and fiercely defends its hunting grounds.+ +1. **Large Eyeballs:** Consistent with high light sensitivity, likely for hunting of luminescent prey in low-light environments.+2. **Thickly-armored Exoskeleton:** Suggests defensive adaptation either to larger predators, or in-species aggression. Marked similarity to the segmented exoskeleton of the sand shark, suggesting a relatively recent common ancestor.+ +Generally slow and unresponsive as a means of energy conservation, they will act with uncompromising speed and aggression against any threat to their territory.+ +**Assessment:** Avoid - May be distracted by light sources+ +**Source:** Scan+ +## Gallery+ +* ![A Boneshark egg](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/20160726203904_1.jpg/200px-20160726203904_1.jpg?2e8b5)+* ![A pair of Bonesharks in the Bulb Zone](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark_Bulb_Zone.png/200px-Boneshark_Bulb_Zone.png?d56a8)+* ![A large pack of Bonesharks in the Underwater Islands biome](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark_Underwater_Islands.png/200px-Boneshark_Underwater_Islands.png?45a7d)+* ![A Boneshark being Illuminated by a flare at night](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Boneshark_Flare.png/200px-Boneshark_Flare.png?90de9)+* ![Concept art](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Bone_Shark_Concept_Art.jpg/200px-Bone_Shark_Concept_Art.jpg?280c2)+* ![Boneshark model from Sketchfab](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Bonesharkmodel.png/200px-Bonesharkmodel.png?d9996)+ +## Trivia+ +* The Sea Emperor Leviathan and the River Prowler previously used the AI of the Boneshark.+* Bonesharks once dwelled in large numbers in the Grassy Plateaus.+* Through a mistake, Bonesharks were incorrectly scaled at around half the size they were intended to be for the majority of the early access phase of Subnautica. This was fixed in the Voice of the Deep Update of 2017, where they were given a 50% size increase, then an additional 10% size increase on top of that.+* The Boneshark, along with the Lava Lizard and River Prowler, used to be aggressive to the Cyclops and were capable of damaging the submarine. This was removed in the Voice of the Deep update.
