You will notice that happy bacteria smell like beets." — PDA upon first creation A **Bioscanner** is a [Scanner](Scanner) upgraded by [Axum](Axum) technology via an upgrade at the [Modification Station](Modification Station). ## Recipe The Bioscanner blueprint is unlocked by scanning the Bioscanner found in the [EVA Prep](EVA Prep) wreck. -| Machine | Ingredients | Result |-| :--- | :--- | :--- |-| Modification Station | * 1x [Scanner](Scanner)
* 2x [Enameled Glass](Enameled Glass)
* 3x [Conduit Crystal](Conduit Crystal) | **Bioscanner** |+| Ingredient | Quantity |+| :--- | :--- |+| [Scanner](Scanner) | 1 |+| [Enameled Glass](Enameled Glass) | 2 |+| [Conduit Crystal](Conduit Crystal) | 3 | +**Crafted at:** [Modification Station](Modification Station)+ ## Usage The Bioscanner can be used to scan otherwise unscannable Axum technology such as the turbine at the Power Plant. It also allows the scanning of various [Lifeforms](Lifeforms) to unlock the use of new [Biomods](Biomods) at the [Biolab](Biolab). Scanning a lifeform for the first time unlocks its related biomod, if it has one, and counts towards unlocking new passive Biomod slots. Lifeforms of the same type cannot be scanned multiple times to accumulate bio scans. ### Bio Scans Below is a list of scannable things that count as bio scans. | # | Bio Scan | Type | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | 1 | [Bloom Parasite](Bloom Parasite)* | Lifeform | | 2 | [Black Hoverthorn](Black Hoverthorn) | Lifeform | | 3 | [Bluemoon](Bluemoon) | Lifeform | | 4 | [Coral Crab](Coral Crab) | Lifeform | | 5 | [Epicurean](Epicurean) | Lifeform | | 6 | [Flash Slug](Flash Slug) | Lifeform | | 7 | [Geordie](Geordie) | Lifeform | | 8 | [Halfmoon](Halfmoon) | Lifeform | | 9 | [Hammerhead](Hammerhead) | Lifeform | | 10 | [Harvestmoon](Harvestmoon) | Lifeform | | 11 | [Hoverthorn](Hoverthorn) | Lifeform | | 12 | [Jelly Ring](Jelly Ring) | Lifeform | | 13 | [Jetocaris](Jetocaris) | Lifeform | | 14 | [Periscopic Clowncrab](Periscopic Clowncrab) | Lifeform | | 15 | [Pneuma](Pneuma) | Lifeform | | 16 | [Surge Jelly](Surge Jelly) | Lifeform | | 17 | [Water Slug](Water Slug) | Lifeform | | 18 | [Waxmoon](Waxmoon) | Lifeform | | 19 | [Collector Leviathan](Collector Leviathan) | Lifeform | | 20 | [Deepwing Brooder](Deepwing Brooder) | Lifeform | | 21 | [Shiver Leviathan](Shiver Leviathan)
[Shiver Male](Shiver Male) | Lifeform | | 22 | [Bullethead](Bullethead) | Lifeform | | 23 | [Cerathecan](Cerathecan) | Lifeform | | 24 | [Foureye](Foureye) | Lifeform | | 25 | [Houndgar](Houndgar) | Lifeform | | 26 | [Hycean](Hycean) | Lifeform | | 27 | [Marrowbreach](Marrowbreach) | Lifeform | | 28 | [Needler Mango](Needler Mango) | Lifeform | | 29 | [Nibbler Mango](Nibbler Mango) | Lifeform | | 30 | [Sandspear](Sandspear) | Lifeform | | 31 | [Twin Sitaray](Twin Sitaray) | Lifeform | | 32 | [Electric Geordie](Electric Geordie) | Lifeform | | 33 | [Tongue Thief](Tongue Thief) | Lifeform | | 34 | [Tallshroom](Tallshroom) | Lifeform | | 35 | [Gateway Spire](Gateway Spire) | Lifeform | | 36 | [Pent](Pent) | Lifeform | | 37 | [Bloom Biofilm](Bloom Biofilm)* | Lifeform | | 38 | [Bloom Canker](Bloom Canker)* | Lifeform | | 39 | [Armored Bloom Canker](Bloom Canker)* | Lifeform | | 40 | [Bloom Core](Bloom Core) | Lifeform | | 41 | [Bloom Node](Bloom Node) | Lifeform | | 42 | [Angel Comb](Angel Comb) | Lifeform | | 43 | [Branching Coral](Branching Coral) | Lifeform | | 44 | [Cage Gorgon](Cage Gorgon) | Lifeform | | 45 | [Coral Dome](Coral Dome) | Lifeform | | 46 | [Curtain Gorgon](Curtain Gorgon) | Lifeform | | 47 | [Dragon's Scale Coral](Dragon's Scale Coral) | Lifeform | | 48 | [Listening Gorgon](Listening Gorgon) | Lifeform | | 49 | [Radiator Coral](Radiator Coral) | Lifeform | | 50 | [Whip Gorgon](Whip Gorgon) | Lifeform | | 51 | [BFJ](BFJ) | Lifeform | | 52 | [Jelly Lei](Jelly Lei) | Lifeform | | 53 | [Necrolei](Necrolei) | Lifeform | | 54 | [Feather Kelp](Feather Kelp) | Lifeform | | 55 | [Great Jaw](Great Jaw) | Lifeform | | 56 | [Stagged Mephit (HiHat)](Stagged Mephit (HiHat)) | Lifeform | | 57 | [Mimic Pylon](Mimic Pylon) | Lifeform | | 58 | [Acid Raion](Acid Raion) | Lifeform | | 59 | [Donut of Worms](Donut of Worms) | Lifeform | | 60 | [Donut, No Worms](Donut, No Worms) | Lifeform | | 61 | [Amphora Sponge](Amphora Sponge) | Lifeform | | 62 | [Jack Sponge](Jack Sponge) | Lifeform | | 63 | [Macaron Sponge](Macaron Sponge) | Lifeform | | 64 | [Pebbled Sporal](Pebbled Sporal) | Lifeform | | 65 | [Teal Sporal](Teal Sporal) | Lifeform | | 66 | [Toxic Sponge](Toxic Sponge) | Lifeform | | 67 | [Cabbage Shootroot](Cabbage Shootroot) | Lifeform | | 68 | [Cradle Shootroot](Cradle Shootroot) | Lifeform | | 69 | [Titan Rockbore](Titan Rockbore) | Lifeform | | 70 | [Cherimoya Rotsac](Cherimoya Rotsac) | Lifeform | | 71 | [Dangling Salp](Dangling Salp) | Lifeform | | 72 | [Hecaton Tunic](Hecaton Tunic) | Lifeform | | 73 | [Lucifer Rotsac](Lucifer Rotsac) | Lifeform | | 74 | [Oxygen Tunic](Oxygen Tunic) | Lifeform | | 75 | [Eyeball Sponge](Eyeball Sponge) | Lifeform | | 76 | [Freesia Flower](Freesia Flower) | Lifeform | | 77 | [Awnworm](Awnworm) | Lifeform | | 78 | [Fridge Worm](Fridge Worm) | Lifeform | | 79 | [Fibrous Pulp](Fibrous Pulp) | Item | | 80 | [Coral Shavings](Coral Shavings) | Item | | 81 | [Dead Coral Crab](Dead Coral Crab) | Environment | | 82 | [Necrolei Cyst](Necrolei Cyst)
[Necrolei Bud](Necrolei Bud) | Item | | 83 | [Bloom Canker (Display Case)](Old Habitat) | Environment | | 84 | [Bloom Specimen](Old Habitat) | Environment | -*If all of this lifeform has been cleared from the map, it will be impossible to obtain its scan.*+*Note: If all of this lifeform has been cleared from the map, it will be impossible to obtain its scan.* ## Fragments ![300px](wiki-images/e7/e70052b06690388124d205edf47280cc.png) | Coords & Depth | Description | | :--- | :--- | | -165682, 459403 @ 140m | At the entrance of the [EVA Prep](EVA Prep) wreck | ## Databank Entry **OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS** Scan Axum technology to generate repair or fabrication blueprints. Scan living targets to unlock new biomods. **BACKGROUND** The Protean ocean contains huge amounts of dissolved metal ions and viral DNA. Protean life has evolved to use one to identify the other. The bioscanner hosts metal-eating bacteria which produce a robust beet odor and trillions of metallic marker proteins. In the wild, these markers bind to viral DNA, allowing the bacteria to incorporate or reject it. In the bioscanner, these markers are broadcast to the target by the scan field. - In living targets, the markers bind to Protean DNA, allowing the scanner to conduct advanced analytic biochemistry and generate new biomods - In Axum targets, the markers bind to circuits, transistors, and bacterial fibers for functional analysis of Axum technology The difficulty of analyzing alien biochemistries in digital simulation may have contributed to the extinction of the Architect civilization. Perhaps they lacked friendly beet-flavored bacteria. *Source: Unlock the Bioscanner blueprint* ## Gallery ![The Bioscanner scanning an object.](BioScanner Scanning.gif)
