Fumarole

Fumarole
- Biome: Deep Purple Vents, Purple Vents
- Debug ID:
purplevent
The Fumarole is a heat-emitting geological formation found within the Purple Vents and Deep Purple Vents.
Description
The Fumarole is a yellow, dome-like structure. Unlike most geothermal vents, the rim of the Fumarole is noticeably serrated. Most of the structures erupt continuously or periodically, emitting an unknown purple substance capable of burning the player. Some Fumaroles are completely dormant.
For the Fumaroles that erupt periodically, the eruption lasts for a short period of time, up until solid material infused with the purple substance proceeds to distend from beneath the structure. The material eventually bursts, allowing the Fumarole to erupt again.
A remarkably large Fumarole sits at the bottom of the Deep Purple Vents biome.

These blister-like fumaroles are vents for steam and volcanic gasses that cycle through stages of accumulation and release in hidden chambers deep beneath the ocean floor.
The gas mixture emitted by a fumarole typically contains carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide, sourced directly from bodies of magma. The vibrant, violent explosions seen here get their distinctive purple hue from the additional presence of gaseous iodine in the mixture.
