Waxy shell full of sulfuric acid. | | **Species** | Unknown | | **Attitude** | Passive | | **Type** | Anchored | | **Category** | Anomalies | | **Biome** | Coral Gardens |+| **Plantable** | Yes | The **Pent** is a macroscopic acellular "lifeform", noted by the PDA to not be "alive" in the traditional sense. Pents tend to be found in clusters of three to five individuals. Pent can be harvested and used like any raw material. ## Appearance The Pent's main body consists of a three-lobed cup-like structure with a rough surface texture. Atop the body are a trio of pentagonal structures which may be orange or blue. ## Recipe -A single Pent is planted in the Growbed where they grow to produce 3 Pents in 3 minutes. Very useful for producing a Biofuel Block for the Bioreactor.- | Machine | Input | Output | | :--- | :--- | :--- |-| Habitat Builder | 1x Pent | 3x Pent |+| Habitat Builder | 1 Pent | 3 Pents | -## Uses in Crafting+A single Pent is planted in the Growbed where they grow to produce 3 Pents in 3 minutes. It contains no cells, no genetic material, and no water chemistry. > > Resuming generation. > > **1. Gross traits** > > The pent is a soft, waxy body that contains a bath of sulfuric acid. Heat is provided by a lining of radioactive elements. Internal chemistry shows no sign of protein sequences, though there are complex fatty acids partitioned into compartments by fat bubbles. Internal chemical reactions are sluggish. If it were alive, it would be dying. > > **2. Geological formation?** > > Some geological formations, such as rock varnish, may be mistaken for life. The pent could be a similar phenomenon—a self-organising but non-living structure. > > **3. Shadow biosphere?** > > Alternatively, though more remotely, the pent may be the product of a shadow biosphere—a parallel form of life on this world which operates on a distinct chemical basis. The pent more closely resembles life forms found in the atmosphere of Venus than any terrestrial organism. > > **Assessment:** enigmatic. Await further updates. *Source: Scan a Pent* ## Gallery ### In Game ![Orange Pent in daylight](Pent Clusters 1.png) *Orange Pent in daylight.* ![Orange Pent bioluminescence](Pent Cluster at night.png) *Orange Pent bioluminescence.* ![Blue Pent in daylight](Blue Pent Day.png) *Blue Pent in daylight.* ![Blue Pent bioluminescence](Blue Pent Night.png) *Blue Pent bioluminescence.* ### Other ![Pent databank render](Pent Databank.png) *Pent databank render.* ![Pent inventory icon](Pent.png) *Pent inventory icon.* ## Trivia * Although blue-colored Pents can be picked up, they appear orange in the inventory and when dropped. * The Databank Entry suggests that life was found in the atmosphere of Venus.
