It provides +25 Food and -5 Water when consumed. The **Digestion** adaptation is required to safely consume alien lifeforms. A player without this adaptation will not receive its effect and be deducted health. ## Appearance -*Information regarding specific visual details is currently limited.*+The Pneuma sports a large, oval, green colored body, featuring a two-toned yellow and blue streak horizontally along the top of its head. Several light-blue vein-like patterns can be spotted on the body. The fish carries six large, closely-spaced fins, three on each side of the body. Each fin is shaped similarly to blades of kelp. The ends of the fins turn into an aqua color, with white dots appearing at the very edges of the fins. Four fins grow out of the belly area, whereas two of them are placed on the center top of the head. The Pneuma possesses a tail-fin that is sharp in appearance, resembling the shape of a knife blade with serrated edges. At the front of the body is a small, sharp, black beak, with two small yellow eyes placed right behind it on the underside of the body. Above each eye, a white dot that is close in appearance of a pearl can be spotted. ## Behaviour -*Information regarding specific behavioral patterns is currently limited.*+*(Information pending)* ## Recipes The Pneuma can be used in the following recipes: * **Cooked Pneuma** ## Databank Entry > *Caught script hook in allocated memory for command >> generate-databank "Pneuma" >> echo \memory-carve -signature=0xSEABEEF5 >> restore-databank* > > "The pneuma is one of the ecological amputees we keep finding. It evolved for a niche that no longer exists. It found new ways to get things done, but I think it's still trying to grip that phantom hand." - Sophie Boucher, *Proteus As Patient* > > *Pneuma pneuma*, a prey fish that mimics the bladders of kelp. > > **1. Fish** > > A relative of the halfmoon (*Moliform luna*). The paired pectoral, pelvic and (REDACTED) fins are large but closely spaced, favoring agility over speed. The tail fin is ragged. All the fins mimic the pattern of kelp blades. The spinal nerve braid is protected by an armored stem similar to a kelp stipe. The jaw is a clamp; food is rasped by the tongue. > > **2. Kelp mimicry** > > The pneuma has evolved to mimic the air bladders of large kelp. It is unclear whether the pneuma traveled here from a kelp forest, or if a kelp forest in the Karakorum region went extinct. > > **3. Pneuma** > > The pneuma is named for its large swim bladder. When clamped to kelp with its beak, the pneuma's bladder pulls it upward, helping to support the kelp and maintain the pneuma's camouflage. Since there is no kelp in the Karakorum regions, pneuma have instead begun to swallow rocks to use as ballast. > > **Assessment:** edible prey fish. Sign of ecological turmoil. Check for rocky ballast before consuming. *Source: Scan a Pneuma* ## Gallery *Typical of Proteus lifeforms, the eyes are set below the mouth* *Eyes are set forward suggesting a semi-predatory evolution* *No horizontal navigational fins are evident* *Interesting colored spots on the tailfin* ## Trivia * The Pneuma’s in-universe origin as a remnant of a biome that no longer exists serves as a reference to its real origin, as a lifeform native to the cut Kelp Forest biome.
