+# Quartz (Subnautica)+ +![Quartz](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/Quartz.png?0d4f7)+ +**Quartz** is a raw material found on the seabed of many Biomes and in most Caves.+ +## Description+ +Quartz appears in game as large, whitish-grey clusters of crystals protruding from a coarse-grained grey rock in the center. A faint glow is emitted from Quartz, which can be seen at night and makes it much easier to locate.+ +Quartz can be found as a large resource deposit. Said deposits are especially plentiful in the Lost River, Grand Reef, Dunes, and Crag Field.+ +### Acquisition+ +* **Source:** Large Resource Deposits+* **Size:** 1+* **Yield:** 7 - 14 per deposit (in specific biomes like Crag Field, Dunes, Deep Sparse Reef, Grand Reef, Inactive Lava Zone, Lost River, Junction, Mountains Corridor, Mountains Caves, Sparse Reef)+ +### Locations+ +Quartz is found in the following Biomes and Caves:+ +* Blood Kelp Caves+* Blood Kelp Zone+* Bone Fields+* Crag Field+* Crash Zone+* Crash Zone Mesas+* Deep Sparse Reef+* Dunes+* Dunes Caves+* Grand Reef+* Grassy Plateaus+* Grassy Plateaus Caves+* Inactive Lava Zone+* Kelp Forest+* Kelp Forest Caves+* Lost River+ * Corridor+ * Ghost Canyon+ * Ghost Forest+ * Tree Cove+* Junction+* Mountains+* Mountains Corridor+* Mountains Caves+* Safe Shallows+* Safe Shallows Caves+* Sea Treader's Path+* Sea Treader's Tunnel Caves+* Sparse Reef+* Underwater Islands+* Underwater Islands Caves+ +## Uses In Crafting+ +### Fabricator+ +* **Glass**: Requires Quartz+ +### Habitat Builder+ +* **Hatch**: Requires Titanium, Quartz, Copper Ore, Solar Panel, Locker+ +## Gallery+ +![Quartz at night](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Quartz4.jpg/199px-Quartz4.jpg?e065f)+*Quartz at night*+ +![Quartz at Day](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Quartz1.jpg/199px-Quartz1.jpg?ddfd8)+*Quartz at Day*+ +![Quartz found in a patch of sea grass](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Quartz3.jpg/199px-Quartz3.jpg?c963f)+*Quartz found in a patch of sea grass*+ +![The old form of Quartz](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/Material_quartz_%282%29.jpg/190px-Material_quartz_%282%29.jpg?a8d08)+*The old form of Quartz*+ +![The large form of Quartz](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/NewQuartzLarge5.jpg/199px-NewQuartzLarge5.jpg?197d0)+*The large form of Quartz*+ +![Model from Sketchfab](https://wiki.subnautica.com/sn/images/thumb/QuartzModel.jpeg/120px-QuartzModel.jpeg?263c3)+*Model from Sketchfab*+ +## Trivia+ +The formula SiO4 given in the description of Quartz is incorrect, as SiO4 isolated is not a stable molecule, rather it is an ion. The correct formula would be SiO2. This is a fairly common error, as the crystal structure of quartz when represented as a Lewis structure or 3D model appears to show each silicon atom bonded to four atoms of oxygen, however these oxygen atoms are in fact shared with other silicon atoms, meaning the correct formula is SiO2.
