Vase Tunic is a lifeform found in Subnautica 2.

Databank Entry

Tunic vasoecium. Bulbous, sessile tunicate colony with bioluminescent threat response mechanisms.

1. Esse est percipi

Initial scans suggested the vase tunic emitted continuous bioluminescent light in dark waters, but spectrogenetic analysis suggests it spends most of its life in total darkness. Light is a response to the presence of other organisms.

2. Threat Sensor

Hair-like cilia lining the tunic’s flower-like appendages detect subtle pressure changes in the surrounding seawater. When intruders of sufficient mass are detected, the tunic responds by lighting up its central mantle.

3. Burglar Alarm

The tunic’s light show has not evolved as a warning mechanism. The creature is entirely harmless. The light emitted is, however, effective at illuminating nearby organisms for predators, who may attack and consume the identified threat.

Assessment: a non-threatening creature in itself. However, divers are advised against lingering to admire the display, lest they become a menu item.
