It can be used to create drinkable [water](Water). ## Appearance Water Slugs have a large muscular foot, atop of which is a largely transparent body with four backward-facing spines and a purple inner core. The head is purple and has a triangular mouth with a pair of eyestalks. -![Water Slug](Water Slug.png)+![Water Slug](Water_Slug.png) ## Behavior Water Slugs can be seen hiding within patches of seagrass where they remain motionless. When a player approaches, Water Slugs will contract their eye stems and shake in fear. ## On Collecting-NoA will tell you the following:+NoA will tell the player the following: > "This organism filters brine into drinkable water. This may be an adaptation to the seawater's anomalously high viral load." +## Recipes+The Water Slug can be processed to produce:+* [Water](Water)+ ## Databank Entry **Source:** [Scan](Scan) a Water Slug **Water slug** (tentatively *Seaslug hydroclast*). A biological enigma that converts seawater into drinkable fresh water. -1. **Microbial fuel cell**- Removing salt from seawater is energy-intensive. Nonetheless, the water slug does it, perhaps as a byproduct of an internal microbial reactor that feeds on waste in seawater.+1. **Microbial fuel cell**+ Removing salt from seawater is energy-intensive. Possible evolutionary history as a parasite or commensal, tapping a host's blood and filtering out toxins. **Assessment:** Only nearby source of drinkable water. Advise fabricator cook before drinking. In case of kidney problems, consider allowing the water slug to feed on your blood. ## Gallery ### In Game ![Water Slugs in the Shallows grass](Waterslugsstalked.png)-*Water Slugs in the Shallows grass.*- ![A single Water Slug](Waterslugchillin.png)-*A single Water Slug.*- ![Water Slug closeup](Waterslugwoobling.png)-*Water Slug closeup.*- ![Water Slug held in hand like a Burger](Waterslugfriend.png)-*Water Slug held in hand like a Burger.* ### Concept Art-![Concept art, by Alex Ries](Water Slug Concept Art.jpg)-*Concept art, by Alex Ries.*+![Concept art, by Alex Ries](Water_Slug_Concept_Art.jpg) ### Other ![One of the three partial Water Slug images that was put into the Time Capsule circulation](WaterslugTimeCapsule1.webp)-*One of the three partial Water Slug images that was put into the Time Capsule circulation.*- ![Ditto](WaterSlugTimeCapsule2.webp)-*Ditto.*- ![Ditto](WaterslugTimeCapsule3.webp)-*Ditto.*- ![An image featuring the Water Slug created for the 7th birthday of Subnautica](WaterSlugInfobox.webp)-*An image featuring the Water Slug created for the 7th birthday of Subnautica.* ## Trivia-* The Water Slug was the first Subnautica 2 creature to be shown, being partially revealed in three images put into circulation in Subnautica's Time Capsules and subsequently added as a custom emote to the official Discord server.-* The Water Slug cannot be cooked, unlike its counterpart in the first two games, the [Bladderfish](https://subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Bladderfish).-* Despite being the namesake of the databank’s Water Slugs category, the Water Slug itself is currently listed in a separate, molluscs category, making the [Flash Slug](Flash_Slug) the only organism listed under the Water Slugs category.+* The Water Slug was the first Subnautica 2 creature to be shown, being partially revealed in three images put into circulation in Subnautica's Time Capsules and subsequently added as a custom emote to the official Discord server.+* The Water Slug cannot be cooked, unlike its counterpart in the first two games, the [Bladderfish](https://subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Bladderfish).+* Despite being the namesake of the databank’s Water Slugs category, the Water Slug itself is currently listed in a separate, molluscs category, making the [Flash Slug](Flash_Slug) the only organism listed under the Water Slugs category.
