Dead Great Jaws are deceased Great Jaws found in the Great Jaw Farms and Homestead Ruins. Based on the PDA's analysis of its demise, it is highly likely that the cause of death was a Collector Leviathan.
Tar Graphene can be found within the Great Jaw corpses. A scan for Caustic Lye can be found growing from atop some Great Jaws' bodies.
Databank Entry
Dead Great Jaw
A great jaw (Megamya sudacna) torn open and killed by a predator.
Growth patterns indicate the jaw matured steadily until approximately 200 years ago, when its steady diet of tar-eating bacteria began to fluctuate. The jaw was nearly drowned by rising tar levels, and carbon deposits remain trapped in the shell.
Stress markers in the jaw's shell indicate increasing distress over the final period of its life. The organism produced and sequestered volumes of lye, but it is unclear if this was a result of changing metabolic processes or a defensive adaptation.
Death occurred when the jaw's body was pulled away from its shell—first in a series of wounds, then a wholesale excision.
