The Karakorum Ruins is a region on the eastern side of the playable area, directly east of the Coral Gardens region where the Lifepod floats. Formerly a site of industry for the native Axum, Karakorum holds the legacy of the Axum, as well as the scars of industrial pollution. When the Cicada Pioneers discovered and named the area it was fiercely protected by the Axum Tailing, though it now lays abandoned.
Description
The westernmost and shallowest biome of the region is the Overgrown Ruins, situated east of the Graveyard, and separated from it by a deep chasm. The Axum Observatory was constructed in this biome and stands there to this day. East of the Overgrown Ruins lies the Karakorum Power Plant, an enormous structure once used to power Axum technology, though it is now dormant. The Power Plant must be repaired and reactivated in order to gain access to the Observatory. Northeast of the Power Plant are the Root Canyon and the Karakorum Metal Farms. These biomes are characterized by heavy pollution, with industrial runoff forming bright green pools around the central portion of the biome.
The presence of the Pneuma in the Overgrown Ruins potentially implies that the Karakorum Ruins once hosted a kelp forest, prior to its industrialisation.
Biomes
Karakorum Metal Farms
Deep within the region lies the Karakorum Metal Farms, a small biome covered with green pools and Axum machinery.
Overgrown Ruins
The Overgrown Ruins is a biome on the western side of the region and is likely the first biome players will encounter in the region. It is home to the Axum Observatory, an important location in the history of the Axum.
Root Canyon
The Root Canyon is a large, diverse biome that encompasses most of the space directly underneath the Karakorum Power Plant. This biome contains ample lifeforms and resources, as well as the crucial Axum Vision Angel Comb.
