The Leviathan Harp is a large Axum device used to interact with the Collector Leviathan. The Leviathan Harp Torsion Control on the harp's arm requires the use of an EMT Tool to operate. Tuning the harp attracts Collector Leviathans to it.

Overview

The Leviathan Harp can be tuned with the use of an EMT Tool. When cranked all the way right, the harp begins to play music for a limited time. The music from the harp attracts all the Collector Leviathans in the Tar Delta region, temporarily pacifying them in the process.

Location

The Leviathan Harp is located on a cliff in the Collection Zone at coordinates -236074, 328498 and a depth of approximately 580m.

Leviathan Harp Approach

Axum New

A mechanism resembling a musical instrument. The implied wavelength could signal hundreds of kilometers into the Protean sea, but the intended recipients probably dwell nearby.

Axum New

A percussive signaling device. External bars resonate hollow internal chambers, creating musical notes. Possibly used by Axum to communicate with leviathan-class organisms.

— Ten articulated hammers (resembling crustacean claws) strike five alloy crossbars

— Crossbars trigger resonance in the gas-filled cavities of the harp's main hull

— Electrical power is supplied by regional power grid, with local backup

— External control sockets must be aligned to keep harp in tune

The harp may mimic a smaller instrument played by individual Axum. The mechanical hammers could replicate Axum limbs or mouthparts.

The design conceals most of its complex functions internally, probably to survive the attention of leviathan-class predators. Beak marks on the hull and crossbars suggest that Collector leviathans have chewed and manipulated the structure, gradually damaging it. After centuries of this treatment, the harp can only play a short tune before breaking down.

Assessment: device may attract attention of leviathan-class organisms. Requires frequent retuning for correct function.
