The Pygmy Fan is a small, relatively rare flora species mostly found scarcely populating the Mushroom Forest and Bulb Zone in small clusters. It is merely decorative and serves no purpose in crafting, but can also be harvested for Pygmy Fan Seeds by using the knife, which can then be planted in an Exterior Growbed or an Alien Containment. It takes 400 seconds (6:40 minutes) for a fully mature Pygmy Fan to grow from a seed.

Harvesting and Growth

  • Small Clusters: Have 15 HP and will be destroyed by a single knife hit, granting 5 seeds.
  • Large Clusters: Have 50 HP and can be hit three times, giving two extra seeds, for a total of 7 seeds.
  • Artificial Growth: Planting a Pygmy Fan Seed in an exterior growbed will grow as an individual Pygmy Fan instead of a cluster and can be picked up as an item itself, unlike the cluster. Striking it with a knife always yields 2 seeds and will destroy it.
  • Console Commands: Pygmy Fan cannot be obtained as an item using console commands; it can only be grown in an exterior growbed. Trying to execute a command will spawn a Pygmy Fan Seed instead.

Bioreactor Fuel

The seeds can be used as fuel for the bioreactor for 28 units of energy per seed. However, a grown Pygmy Fan produces 70 units of energy per item.

Appearance

The Pygmy Fan is mostly yellowish green in color. It consists of a slender stalk splitting into seven smaller branches, held together by a thin, yellow membrane, which is capable of emitting a faint bioluminescent glow, revealing several vein-like structures within.

Trivia

  • Despite the Databank entry describing the Pygmy Fan as a common plant, it is one of the rarer plants found in the game.
  • There are 23 Pygmy Fan Clusters within The Crater: 11 in the Bulb Zone, 4 in the Northeastern Mushroom Forest, and 8 in the Northwestern Mushroom Forest. Harvesting all of them will yield a grand total of 142 seeds.
