Scorpius (originally known as Sparse Plains) is the code-name for a heavily unfinished region located northeast of the [Coral Gardens](Biomes#Coral Gardens). Described by developers as the "home of the [Collector Leviathan](Collector Leviathan)," development of this region is scheduled to be the main focus of the [EA2 Update](Planned Features).

Currently, the region exists in a very early state within the game, featuring virtually no resources or lifeforms. With the upcoming EA2 Update, new lifeforms such as the [Tar Eel](Tar Eel) and Descender are expected to be introduced.

Overview

In-game Status

Based on the current in-game layout, Scorpius is projected to be the largest and deepest region in Subnautica 2 to date. The region is divided into three code-named sections:

  • Sargas: An open plain.
  • Lesath: A series of fractured steps and trenches.
  • Antares: A large tar lake.

A trail of unfinished Cicada debris can be followed from the top of Sargas, through Lesath, and down to the bottom of Antares.

South of Sargas lies a drained reservoir that once held tar, which has since spilled out and flooded the rest of the region. Currently, this reservoir is the location of the [Collector Leviathan](Collector Leviathan), as well as a small group of four Waterslugs.

With the exception of the reservoir, the entire region is currently beyond the [Early Access Barrier](Early Access Barrier). Attempted exploration in these areas brings the threat of [Shiver Leviathans](Shiver Leviathan).

Future Content

In future updates, Scorpius will host a wider variety of lifeforms, most notably a large population of [Great Jaws](Great Jaw). The Collector Leviathan currently found at the reservoir is expected to be moved to a deeper part of the region.

Concept art and developer videos indicate that the Axum faction had a strong presence in this area. This includes a large dam in Sargas designed to restrict the flow of tar, which appears to have been sabotaged.

Additionally, the region will contain:

  • A wreck containing [Bullfrog Workmech](Bullfrog Workmech) fragments.
  • The BigSub itself, waiting to be restored.
