Scorpius (originally known as Sparse Plains) is the code-name for a heavily unfinished region located northeast of the Coral Gardens. Described as the "home of the Collector Leviathan," development of this region is a main focus of the planned EA2 Update.

Currently, the region is in a very early state in-game, with virtually no resources or lifeforms present. With the EA2 Update, new lifeforms such as the Tar Eel and Descender will be introduced.

Overview

In-game

Based on the current in-game layout, Scorpius will be the largest and deepest region to date.

The region is divided into three code-named sections:

  • Sargas: An open plain.
  • Lesath: A series of fractured steps and trenches.
  • Antares: A large tar lake.

A trail of unfinished Cicada debris can be followed from the top of Sargas, through Lesath, and down to the bottom of Antares.

South of Sargas is a drained reservoir that once held tar, which has since spilled out and flooded the rest of the region. Presently, this is where the Collector Leviathan is located, as well as a small meeting of four Water Slugs.

With the exception of the reservoir, the entire region is currently beyond the Early Access Barrier, meaning that attempted exploration will bring with it the threat of Shiver Leviathans.

While there is little else to be found in Scorpius by default, the console commands wp.Runtime.ToggleDataLayerActivation and wp.Runtime.ToggleDrawDataLayers can be used to reveal hidden features and locations, including the buried BigSub and a wreck containing Bullfrog Workmech fragments.

Future Content

In the future, Scorpius will be home to many more lifeforms including, and perhaps most notably, a large population of Great Jaws. The Collector Leviathan currently found at the reservoir will be moved, likely to a deeper part of the region.

"That is why the collector is there, to deter you from building a base so we can build without risking you losing your well made home. Then the collector will go to it's new home." — mildblobfish (Developer)

Based on concept art and developer videos, the Axum will have had a strong presence in the region, including a large dam in Sargas that was made to restrict the flow of tar. The dam has seemingly since been sabotaged.

Biomes

Intermediary Basin

The Intermediary Basin is a desolate trench inhabited by a lone Collector Leviathan. Presently, crossing the basin is the only way to reach the Karakorum Ruins.

Trivia

  • Originally, the region was called Sparse Plains, and featured a much different layout, before being scrapped for a rework.
  • All code-names for this region are based around the constellation Scorpius, with Sargas, Lesath, and Antares being three of its stars.
  • On August 25, 2026, senior narrative designer Seth Dickinson shared a list of potential names for the region: Tar Gorges, Tar Canyon, Tar Steps, Tar Farms, Tar Mazes, Tar Delta, Tar Dikes, Tar Canals, Tar Tsutgalan, Tar Jökulhlaup, Collector Maze, Collector Nest, Pearl Farms, Flooded Farms, Pearl Jam, Gurganj, and Calamari Calamity.
    • Dickinson has since suggested that there is a "99.99%" chance that Tar Delta will be the final name, though it has yet to be fully confirmed.
