Troilite is a Raw Material obtained by using a Sonic Resonator on a Mineralized Clinker, found at the Karakorum Metal Farms. It is used in the crafting of several recipes, notably Axum Ingots.

Recipe
Troilite can be produced in a Metal Farm.
| Machine | Input | Output | Crafting Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal Farm | - | 1-2 Troilite | 20:00 |
Appearance
Troilite is a grey material, with its topography almost resembling a rocky cliff. The upper half of the ore is frosted with a deep green/brown, almost resembling moss.
Obtaining
Troilite can appear as:
- Mineralized Clinkers that are broken with the Sonic Resonator.
Mineralized Clinkers can only be found around the Karakorum Metal Farms. Unlike most Resource Deposits in the game, Mineralized Clinkers respawn. As Troilite is only found as a Resource Deposit, the Sonic Resonator is required to obtain it.

Uses in Crafting
Troilite is primarily used to craft Axum Ingots and other advanced materials.
Databank Entry
Troilite (FeS)
An iron sulfide mineral, likely formed around deep hydrothermal vents. Despite its simple structure, troilite displays unusual quantum spin properties, especially at temperatures above 150C. (Hydrothermal vent temperature may approach 500C.)
Although these properties were known even before the Expansion, they were never thoroughly investigated. They may provide a material basis for spintronic computing, an electronic approach to quantum computing that is distinct from the light-based technologies developed in transgov space.
Recommendation: investigate the role of troilite in alien computational systems.
Trivia
- The chemical formula of Troilite is FeS (Iron(II) sulfide).
- While Troilite is extremely rare on Earth, it is the most common sulfide mineral on the Moon’s surface, comprising around 1% of the lunar crust. It is also abundant on Mars, with Martian meteorites usually containing about 1% Troilite by mass.
- It is thought that the cores of the Jovian moons Ganymede, Callisto and Io have large amounts (~22%) of FeS.
- In the first Early Access version, only about 10 Troilite nodes could be found, meaning if the player spent them all and didn't use them to grow more through the Metal Farm structure, they could soft-lock themselves. This was a common point of confusion in the early days after launch. A later patch added more Troilite in the area.
