The BigSub is the current internal name of a large submarine planned to be added in the EA2 update of Subnautica 2, albeit potentially in an incomplete state. Previously known internally as the Trident, the name was changed due to potential trademark concerns and to avoid implying too much about the vehicle's capabilities or lore connections.

Overview
Based on current implementation, finding and restoring the wrecked sub to working condition will be the main focus of the EA2 update. The wreckage is buried in the Scorpius region. To restore it, the player must:
- Fix the power system.
- Scan the power core with the Bioscanner.
- Repair the core using the Habitat Builder.
- Recover the Big Sub Key Item (internally referred to as the Axum Fission Core) and place it in the core's slot.

The ending screen upon completing restoration suggests the sub may not be fully drivable until a later update. The need for the Bioscanner and the name "Axum Fission Core" suggest the submarine may be of Axum design or a hybrid model.
Features & Mechanics
Developers have discussed several key aspects of the BigSub:
- Unique Acquisition: Only one BigSub exists in the world. It is found, not crafted.
- Durability: Unlike the Cyclops from the original Subnautica, the BigSub will not be fully destructible. It can be put out of commission, but repairs will always be possible.
- Multiplayer Support: The submarine is usable in both singleplayer and multiplayer. While distinct roles ("jobs") may be available for up to four co-op players, a single player can operate it alone.
- Modular Interior: Lead developer Anthony Gallegos has suggested the submarine could feature a modular interior, combining free-build spaces with pre-built compartments that can be swapped out, similar to an XCOM base.

Trivia
- The BigSub is designed by Pat Presley, the original designer of the Cyclops and a prolific concept artist for both Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero.
- The internal name "Trident" was abandoned to avoid trademark issues and because it implied specific characteristics about the vehicle that the developers wanted to keep ambiguous.
