The Bullfrog Workmech is an upcoming Tadpole Chassis. Currently, the Bullfrog Workmech has only been mentioned in text in the game. It was first mentioned in a PDA message the player received after scanning a Tadpole fragment.

Overview

The Bullfrog Workmech is a chassis which adds a pair of arms and legs to the Tadpole, drastically altering the vehicle's performance. Unlike the P.R.A.W.N Suit Mk.III present in previous titles, the Bullfrog Workmech is highly mobile by default, having the ability to thrust, sprint, Dash and gravitize to surfaces, allowing it to walk up walls.

Usage

Like other Tadpole chassis, the Workmech can be docked to a Tadpole by driving into it. Unlike other chassis, the Workmech is affected by gravity and sinks to the ocean floor immediately when attached. Using standard navigational controls, the Workmech can walk around. Its magnetized limbs allow it to also walk up walls (but not ceilings). The Workmech can also hover (Spacebar) which allows it to sink much slower in the water for a short duration. It also has the ability to boost forward (Shift) which gives a speed boost in the direction it is moving in. Both of these functions can cause the Workmech to overheat.

Separate from Tadpole's regular Energy, the Workmech has an overheat bar displayed below the Tadpole's power and integrity. Heat is added when hovering or boosting, and reduces slowly over time. When the overheat bar reaches its capacity, the Tadpole "explodes" though currently no damage is done. The Tadpole will be disabled for a short duration before it starts to cool down.

When landing in tar in the Tar Delta region, the Workmech's window becomes covered in tar. The amount that the window is covered depends on the Workmech's fall height. Falling from enough of a height causes the entire to be covered, blocking the player's visibility. Tar clears up slowly over time.

The Workmech also has arms that can be used to gravitize certain objects (Right Click), such as rocks. Gravitized objects are carried close to the Workmech until thrown (Right Click).

If the Workmech stands on a Jump Lily, the lily will break and fall after a few seconds, dropping the Workmech.

Trivia

  • On July 30, 2026, senior narrative designer Seth Dickinson held a poll on the Subnautica Discord server to determine which name was more preferable: Seafrog or Bullfrog.
    • Though Bullfrog won with 56% of the votes, Dickinson went on to disregard both names in favor of F.R.O.G. Exosuit/Chassis.
