This page documents extraterrestrial locations mentioned within Subnautica, Subnautica: Below Zero, Subnautica 2, and the Natural Selection series. These locations provide background lore for the universe, including previous human colonies, native ecosystems, and sites of significant events.
For information on alien lifeforms, see Extraterrestrial Life.
Alpha671
Alpha671 is a planet mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero upon fabricating a Booster Tank. The databank entry states:
"Equipped with only a booster tank, Dr. Felicity Aman once escaped the underwater acid tentacle forest on planet Alpha671."
The planet apparently hosts an aquatic, likely predatory lifeform known as Acid Tentacles, which grow in large numbers.
Apostikar
Apostikar is mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero in the databank entry for the Architect Body. The nature of the location is unknown, but it is within human-explored space and hosts a native lifeform known as the Putty Serpent.
Atra-Hasis
Atra-Hasis is a human-habitated ocean world where Pioneer Qing "Twinkle" Xing was raised. Little is known of the planet, but it likely has extremely deep oceans.
Boreal 9
Boreal 9 is a planet mentioned twice in Subnautica and alluded to in Subnautica 2. The survivalist Craig McGill apparently once survived a crash-landing here. The planet features acid swamps.
It is most known for the recurring "Arachnid Kidney Poachers" (or simply "Kidney Poachers"), a possibly intelligent, though not technological species mentioned in both Subnautica and Subnautica 2.
Byzantos-5
Byzantos-5 is mentioned by Robin Ayou in Subnautica: Below Zero. Robin apparently once survived here for three months using a knife, some rope, and her lucky PDA. Almost nothing else is known about the location.
Caltwale Prime
Caltwale Prime is mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero in the databank entry for the Architect Body. It hosts a lifeform known as the Chromium Boar, which has apparently become invasive on multiple worlds.
Deltar-6

Deltar-6 is a human-habitated location mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero. Vinh Pham's partner, Iriane, had recently begun living there and sent Vinh a postcard, which can be found in the Omega Base.
A mentioned area of Deltar-6 is the Chirizain desert, which has black sand. A human city built from pale brown stone, situated between two carved cliff faces over the black sandy banks of a river, can be seen in the postcard.
Eido-Thea System
The Eido-Thea system is the star system in which Subnautica 2 takes place. In addition Proteus and Apiary, the system contains six other planets as well as two moons.
Eleme System
The Eleme System is mentioned in Natural Selection 1.
Hera
Hera is a planet featured in Natural Selection. Located on the outskirts of the Ariadne Arm, this electrical storm-wracked planet is named for its similarity to Mars, though it is apparently much larger.
There are two major habitat complexes known as Rhea and Cronus, as well as numerous smaller stations including Station 16-B (the site of the Natural Selection map "ns_hera"). The colony was overtaken by the Kharaa bacterium at some point and was one of the first sites the TSF attempted to push back on.
Holt's Asteroid
Holt's Asteroid is mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero in the databank entry for the Architect Body. It possibly represents the real asteroid 4435 Holt. It hosts an organism known simply as giant geckos.
Lithton
Lithton is mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero in the databank entry for the Architect Body. It hosts an organism known as the electrode eel.
Mardon-14
Mardon-14 is mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero in the databank entry for the Architect Body. It is a planet with multiple moons. The moons are host to an organism known as the astral ray. Given that the rays can be found on multiple moons, it is possible these rays are a spacefaring organism.
New Tārā
New Tārā was the site of a Mongolian one-way colony where Mogami Kinu formerly lived. It is highly probable that the world became overtaken by the Kharaa Bacterium, leading to Mogami fleeing.
Nyos
Nyos is mentioned in the profile of Rauli Isotalo. Isotalo was apparently the sole survivor of an expedition to Nyos.
Obraxis Prime
Obraxis Prime is a location mentioned in Subnautica when the player crafts the Survival Knife. It was apparently the site of a massacre after a group of survivors on the planet fabricated weaponry from their survival blueprints. This event led to the removal of weaponry from standard survival blueprints, with the exception of the Survival Knife.
Odin System

The Odin System is a star system shown in Natural Selection 2 that contains four planets and at least four moons.
Planets and Moons
- Vor: Named for the Norse goddess Vör.
- Modi: Named for the Norse god and son of Thor, Móði.
- Tyr: Named for the Norse god Týr. Seemingly the site of the Neo-Caligo mining facility where the Natural Selection Kharaa strain was discovered.
- Freya: Named for the Norse goddess Freyja.
- Freya IV: A moon mentioned in Natural Selection 2. A colony here, which would become known as "Colony Zero," potentially represents the first Kharaa outbreak.
Olympion
Olympion is mentioned in Subnautica: Below Zero in the databank entry for the Architect Body. It is a mountainous planet and home to an organism known as shaggy goats.
Rakshasa
Rakshasa is mentioned in Subnautica 2. The atmosphere of Rakshasa contains organolead compounds which resulted in the deaths of an entire expedition, save for Rauli Isotalo. Melaku Sansar was amongst the dead; however, his blackbox was retrieved by Isotalo, allowing him to be reprinted. This event is cited as a key reason for the creation of the Biolab.
Sado Island Asteroid Field
The Sado Island Asteroid Field is a location in Natural Selection 2. The map "Caged" takes place onboard a Japanese vessel named the 02883 here. The asteroid field is named for the real Sado Island.
Sanjei Station
Sanjei Station is a Mongolian-controlled space station mentioned in Subnautica. The Aurora refuelled at the station prior to reaching 4546b.
Strader VI
Strader VI is a location mentioned in Subnautica. It is home to a kind of colony-forming, hive-minded organism that is the focus of the databank entry "What Can We Learn From the Hive Mind of Strader VI".
Terra 17
Terra 17 is mentioned by an Alterra citizen named George in Subnautica in a PDA titled "Alterra Citizen Testimonials". It features a controlled habitat in which humans live, though very little is known of it.
