Biography
Pearl Taster was an elderly individual who was not taken with the advancements made by Axum citydwellers such as above-water "supermarines", seeing value in the old ways. He wrote that he was "not with the dry schedules and money", and rather did things "the old wet way" as his family had for four-hundred and thirty-two years. Nevertheless, he was not opposed to change, writing that change is "the delight of our world".
Pearl Taster wrote of his relative Pearl Spawn's intentions to reserve pearls as a dowry for a deep water bride, and forbade Pearl Spawn from flying his supermarine over Xanadu to assess the situation there, though he knew he would be ignored. When Deep Bride began her molt into a deep water morph Pearl Taster knew that he would not be able to survive this molt himself, resigning himself to his work at the farms and feeling sadness that his last Pearl crop would be of poor quality.
Pearl Taster feared that the workers at Karakorum Power Plant would raid their farm for power and food if they began to starve. Pearl Taster attempted to prevent the deaths of a group of Xanadu refugees searching for supplies in the Collection Zone to save their kin, telling Pearl Spawn "I am old and my life is not so vital. I will try to save them. Delight me, child". Despite his long association with the Collectors, in their state of agitation from distant explosions and the presence of intruders, they were not distracted by the playing of the Harp and killed Pearl Taster and the refugee group. After this event, Pearl Spawn named themselves Pearl Flyer.
