The Portable Oxygen Generator is a Utility buildable in Subnautica 2.

Usage

The Portable Oxygen Generator can be attached to a Hardpoint or carried by hand, similar to a Portable Locker. It generates Oxygen at a rate of approximately 4 units of oxygen every 10 seconds when a Battery is inserted. There is a visual indicator on how much Oxygen is currently stored on the side. Interacting with the front of the Generator prompts the Player to inhale.

The Generator is somewhat impractical, as the Air Bladder and Tadpole are a more versatile oxygen source when away from the surface or habitat. A fully charged Basic Battery drains after only a few uses.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Construct with builder tool. Deploy in open water or attach to a hardpoint. Load battery and wait. Inhale collected oxygen from top valve.

BACKGROUND A standard Alterra electrolytic oxygen generator, normally housed within a seabase or vehicle. Probably repurposed by pioneer colonists to provide a portable oxygen source without the resource requirements of a full submersible.

When powered, the oxygen generator drives electric current through seawater, splitting it into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen is released into the seawater (where it bubbles to the surface) and the oxygen is stored for respiration on demand. Oxygen may be cut with inert gas to avoid toxicity at high pressures.
