The World Tree is an enormous living structure extending far above the ocean’s surface. The PDA has assigned the World Tree the classification of "Titan Class," making it one of the largest living organisms encountered in the known universe.

**Titan Rockbore**s function as the roots of the World Tree, and play an important part in feeding both the Tree and many of Proteus' lifeforms.

According to the Axum's message in the Observatory, there are many World Trees spread across the surface of Proteus. It can be assumed that all World Trees are in a state of decay and are at risk of dying due to the Bloom's interference.

Sophie Boucher believes Masefield syndrome originates from the World Tree.

Appearance

The world tree is a titanic tree far away from the Lifepod. The Titan Rockbores function as its roots.

Location

The World Tree is located North-Northwest, about 2400m away from the Lifepod. Beneath the Tree is the Axum hibernation crypt of Xanadu. Players must cross the Great Trench to Xanadu in order to access the World Tree in a future update.

Trivia

  • Travelling to the World Tree is presently ill-advised, as it is located beyond the edges of the world border. It is, however, still possible to reach, assuming the player can avoid the Shiver Leviathans by going undetected.
    • Despite its intended inaccessibility and considerable distance from the playable area, the World Tree possesses full collision and modelling.
    • Currently, attempting to scan the tree results in a scan for the Titan Rockbore.
  • The concept of a "world tree" is present in many real-life religions. Due to the heavy Mongolian themes in Subnautica 2, it can be assumed that the World Tree is derived from Modun of Mongol mythology.
    • The Modun originates from Modu, a chanyu (supreme ruler) of Xiongnu.
  • The World Tree was first shown in the "Diving Together in Multiplayer" Devlog in February 2026.
