The Observatory Island is a biome located in the centre of the map, directly east from the lifepod with a sheer drop on all sides. The biome is characterized by the large Gateway Spires found across its surface. It is situated atop a large shelf, with part of the island containing a large cavern with a Bloom Node linked to the Bloom Core of the nearby Karakorum Power Plant.
The Observatory Island is a mid-game biome, requiring the player to cross the large trench containing a Collector Leviathan to reach it. Found all across the island are large mineral deposits of nearly all of the materials in the game. The Sonic Resonator is required to harvest the materials from the deposits.
Points of Interest
Alterra Base
Found on the eastern side of the island is an abandoned Alterra base, left behind by the original Pioneers from the Cicada. It overlooks the drop off to the Power Plant region. Upon discovering the base, it is without power.
Inside, the player can find a room with a working hatch, giving the player a breathable area within. Once the player inserts a battery into the power terminal, the room contains a fully functional Fabricator, Processor, Biobed and two Wall Lockers. These contain a few provisions and basic materials. The player may also find a functioning NoA node.
Observatory
On the western edge of the island is the massive Axum Observatory, towering over the surroundings. Upon first reaching the structure, it is without power.
Once the Karakorum Power Plant has been made operational again, the player can enter the Observatory and learn more about the location of Proteus as well as view the message the Axum left for the Architects.
Rosetta Stone
An outcrop on the south-eastern side of the island contains the Rosetta Stone, a large obelisk resembling Architect technology that was left by the Axum as a means of teaching Architects the Axum language.
Needler Nest
The Needler Nest, the sole source of Creature Enamel, is a cavernous, underwater mountain between the eastern side of the Observatory Island and the Power Plant. Needler Mangos lurk both inside and outside the Nest, guarding both eggs and abandoned Alterra research stations.
Thermal Vent Cluster
A Thermal Vent Cluster can be found on the southern edge of the island, containing multiple Hydrothermal Vents. It features deposits of Gold and Sulfur.
