In Subnautica 2, players can unlock the blueprint to craft a Flashlight after scanning two Flashlight Fragments found out in the open sea. The tool will only show up in the crafting menu of the Fabricator after you have unlocked the relevant blueprint.
The Flashlight is a tool to light up dark places that is immensely helpful for exploring underwater caves, wrecks, and other structures, especially during the night.
All Flashlight Blueprints in Subnautica 2

There are two Flashlight Fragments located within 30m of the Lifepod, hidden in broken metal containers in nearby cave formations.
Flashlight Blueprint #1
From the Lifepod, look directly down, and you’ll see a large hole leading into a cave formation. Dive down to the bottom of the cave, near the Acid Raion, and scan the Flashlight inside the metal container to get the Flashlight Blueprint Fragment #1.
Flashlight Blueprint #2
From the Lifepod, turn east, and you’ll see a large rock formation just 30m away. Dive into the center of the rock formation through the hole in the top, and you’ll find the Flashlight Blueprint Fragment #2 inside another open metal container, buried halfway into the rock that forms the lip of the cave that leads deeper underground.
There are multiple other Flashlight Fragments found in different ship wrecks and abandoned colonies in Subnautica 2. The two locations listed above are merely the most convenient to get to when you start the game. It is possible, therefore, to find and scan a different Flashlight Fragment to get the complete Blueprint.
How to Craft a Flashlight in Subnautica 2

After you’ve unlocked the Flashlight Blueprint, you’ll be able to craft it at any Fabricator:
| Item | Crafting Station | Recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Flashlight | Fabricator |
|
Titanium can be found on the surface of the ocean floor and inside caves, whereas Quartz can be found embedded in the insides of Coral Domes (large circular orange coral structures).
The Basic Battery can be crafted once you collect two Copper and one Acidic Raion Pouch, which can be harvested from the bright purple, brain-like plants using a Survival Multitool. Both of these are found in the caves in the Safe Shallows biome as well.
How to Use a Flashlight in Subnautica 2
Place the Flashlight on any spot in one of the quick slots, equip it, and toggle it on using the on-screen hotkeys. You need to have the Flashlight in an active slot to activate it, which means if you swap it out to scan something with the Scanner or cut something with a Survival Multitool, it will turn off.
The Wakemaker, a tool used to swim faster in Subnautica 2, has a built-in Flashlight of its own, which can be toggled on or off at will. Similarly, the Tadpole (vehicle) has its own version of Flashlights as well.
Because of this, the Flashlight tool is mainly used during the early to mid stages of the game. Once you get the ability to craft the Wakemaker, you’ll almost never want to carry a Flashlight, especially since inventory slots are limited and you can only equip a certain number of tools in the quick slot bar at a time.
