The Canteen is a Cicada lander module wreck that crash-landed in the Dolerite Spires, southwest of the Welcome Center and right on the edge of the large chasm where Sleep Bay 3 lies.

According to the PDA, the wreck was once drained of water and used by Pioneers, but has since reflooded following decades of disuse.

Description

The entrance to the wreck is an exposed doorway on its southern side, facing the nearby Great Jaw.

Upper Level

Entering the wreck, the player will find themselves in a small room with a Power Storage fragment to the right of the doorway. They can either go through the door on the left, which leads to the lower level, or swim up into the ventilation shaft on the right.

Swimming up into the shaft, there is an immediate intersection. However, going left here results in a quick dead end with a leaking air tank. Going right instead eventually leads to a small sleeping quarters. Here, the player can find a small crate with a Wiring Kit, the Nahema - "How we got here" Databank entry, and, hidden among the bunk beds, the Moonpool Recipe Data Card. Going through the door on the left, there is a small container with Mild Acid and a scannable Carryables Rack on the wall.

Lower Level

Going through the door on the left in the entry room, the player will find themselves at the bottom of an elevator shaft, with a hole blown through the floor blocked by Metal Salvage. Removing the salvage, there is a spacious room with a large couch and an upper balcony area. In the lower area, there is a CHBC Live Poster on the wall, a Just Keep Swimming Poster and Repair Tool fragment on the couch, a Processor in the corner, and another Power Storage fragment underneath the staircase. Up on the balcony level, there is a Battery Terminal on the wall.

Cicada Wreck (Canteen)

A fragment of an AISV Cicada lander module, broken into two segments. Originally a deployable colony structure, including a canteen for relaxation and refreshment.

  • Although pumped out and used as a worksite in the past, the canteen has flooded again
  • Corrosion and weathering make it difficult to determine whether this lander deployed safely from the Cicada, or broke away violently

Nahema - "How we got here"

Nahema, journal, go.

No one wants to talk about how we got here. "Pointless to speculate." I like pointless speculation.

Can't be a flight navigation error. The Cicada had years to adjust course. We couldn't fly to the wrong star.

So we must've made an unscheduled phase gate transit. But phase gates come in pairs. If we jumped through a gate we could jump back. And which phase gate, anyway? Zezura's fourteen years outside transgov space. There are no gates en route.

Unless the phase gate wasn't human.

Mantis says his clan-corp knew Alterra found an alien phase gate on 4546b. It's where the Frontiersmen got their mini-phasegate technology.

What if the Cicada detected an alien phase gate and diverted to check it out? What if the Cicada went through the gate, and couldn't return?

But where's the Cicada? None of us remember a crash. And where are the aliens who built the gate? It can't be the Tailings. So who?
