The Stairway to Heaven is a Cicada compartment wreck that crash-landed on the eastern edge of the Karakorum Ruins, northeast of the Therapy Room and south of the Karakorum Metal Farms. It is named for the emergency stairwell inside.

According to the PDA, the wreck was deliberately moved to its current location at an unknown point in time. This was presumably done to reduce the spread of Bloom, as below the wreck is a cave with a Bloom Node—one of three in Karakorum that need curing in order to heal the region’s Angel Comb.

Description

The entrance to the wreck is an exposed doorway on its western-facing side, however, it is initially blocked by Bloom Biofilm. The player will need a Sonic Resonator or Feedback Resonator to dispel the film.

Before entering the wreck, the player can follow a cable trailing northward from the wreck, which leads to a small worksite overlooking the Metal Farms. Here, the player can find scans for the Advanced Battery, Lab Chair, Power Storage, Modification Station, and Thermal Plant. There are also small containers that contain a Copper Ingot, a Titanium Ingot, and Water. Players should be cautious around this worksite, as the Collector Leviathan roaming above the Metal Farms can sometimes swim close enough to become hostile.

Upper Level

Upon dispelling the biofilm and entering the wreck, the player will find themselves in a small room with a Dining Table. They can either go through the door on the left, which leads to the lower level and cave, or swim up into the ventilation shaft on the right. Swimming up into the shaft, there is an immediate intersection. However, going left here results in a quick dead end with a small container holding Enameled Glass inside. Going right instead eventually leads to a small sleeping quarters with the High Capacity Air Tank Recipe Data Card.

Lower Level

Going through the door on the left in the entry room, the player will find themselves at the bottom of an elevator shaft, with a hole blown through the floor. Down here is a spacious room with a large couch and an upper balcony area, where there is another High Capacity Air Tank Data Card.

Bloom Cave

A hole in the floor of the lower level leads down into a spacious cave occupied by three Titan Rockbores, with a Bloom Node hanging from the underside of the largest one. There are two armored Bloom Cankers that require the Feedback Resonator to destroy, with Bloom Parasites guarding each. Aside from the bores, there are also no less than seven Oxygen Tunics in the cave, which can provide the player with a considerable amount of steady Oxygen.

Cicada Wreck (Stairway to Heaven)

A fragment of an AISV Cicada compartment, including a descending emergency stairwell.

  • The presence of a compartment from the Cicada itself (rather than a lander module) suggests the ship may have broken apart violently

A juvenile angel comb may have been trapped beneath the wreckage.
